Every year, UNE WCHP welcomes all new health professions students to their robust NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION. Not only is this a great time to get pre-enrollment tasks out of the way and become acquainted with the University, campus culture, and greater Portland community at large, but it’s also a great opportunity to meet your specific department, in our case social work faculty, staff, and students and catch your first intimate glimpse into UNE’s MSW Program!
Each year, members of the School of Social Work Student Organization (SSWSO) help organize the Social Work piece of the event based on what they themselves found helpful in previous years.
Check out our superstar SSWSO organizers below:

One particularly popular event this year was the World Café. At this event, individuals from local community organizations came to chat with our incoming students about the diverse range of job prospects that exist upon graduation, clinical and macro. Many of the participating agencies are also our field partners, so it allowed students the opportunity to learn more about specific field placements as well.
This year, we had reps from the following agencies:
*Did you know if you work at Sweetser or DHHS, you get 30% tuition reduction? Email mwebster4@une.edu for details.
At World Café, we also showcase unique curricular aspects of our program, for example our certificate options: Trauma, Applied Arts and Social Justice, and Training in Aging and Diversity ($10,000 Stipend) and different Interprofessional Education Opportunities and we provide information about how to get involved with various grants, projects, and research happening throughout UNE. Tables are set up along the perimeter of the room and students are welcome to visit as many as they’d like and for however long as they’d like.
